The word “pattern” indicates a replicable and infinitely applicable model. There could not have been a more apt name for Pattern Group, an Italian company founded in Turin in 2000 and now an innovative centre for designing, prototyping and producing high-end garments for the big names in international fashion.

Pattern Group is the brainchild of Franco Martorella and Fulvio Botto, two professionals with long experience in fashion and a clear idea: to identify and apply cutting-edge technologies to the fashion world, without forgetting transparency and sustainability.

What does Pattern Group actually do?

Behind the scenes at fashion shows in Paris, Milan, London, and New York is often the work of Pattern Group. The group, an example of Made in Italy in the round, takes care of all the stages of the creative and production process: from design, even in 3D, to transferring customers’ ideas onto fabric, leather or knitwear and the making of the garments. All this occurs in state-of-the-art environments, with specialised teams – often very young – that know how to combine aesthetics, engineering and sustainability.

This approach to fashion, which combines craftsmanship and technology, allows Pattern to offer its customers, which include some of the world’s most important luxury brands, tailor-made solutions and to respond quickly to market demands, while maintaining very high quality standards. Pattern was awarded a prize at the XI National Innovation Award in 2020, precisely for its search for a balance between sartorial craftsmanship and technological innovation, and for developing an innovative strategy to achieve sustainability and zero environmental impact.

Sound and inclusive growth

In little more than twenty years, Pattern Group – by carrying out a targeted acquisition plan that has enabled it to expand in the men’s and women’s tailoring segment – has become a solid, competitive, and diversified group encompassing 13 factories in 7 Italian regions, from Turin to Florence, via Perugia and Bologna. In 2024, it recorded a turnover of over 125 million euros.

Leading this growth is Luca Sburlati, CEO from Turin, born in 1970, who accompanied Pattern to its listing on the stock exchange (Euronext Growth Milan) and to the conquest of a leading role in the universe of luxury fashion.

Real sustainability, not just on paper

Pattern does not just follow green trends; it anticipates them. Thanks to its model that integrates all stages of the production process, the company can count on a high level of quality control and complete traceability of the supply chain, which is essential in an era in which transparency and sustainability are essential values.

The company has invested significantly in sustainability and was one of the first Italian fashion companies to obtain SA8000 social responsibility certification in 2013. All group companies have it today, along with ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) certifications.

Since 2015, Pattern has regularly published its sustainability report according to the rigorous GRI international standards. In 2023, it launched an ambitious ESG Strategic Plan 2025-2030 to build an integrated and cutting-edge management model that is probably unique in the Italian fashion industry. Moreover, Pattern was the first listed Italian fashion company to obtain B Corp certification, a tangible sign of its ethical and environmental commitment.

The Academy that shapes the future of Made in Italy

In 2024, Pattern launched its in-house Academy, an ongoing training project aimed at the group’s companies’ employees. The online and in-person courses touch on topics ranging from innovation to sustainability and the development of soft skills. It is not just training but a real investment in human capital and work culture, transmitting know-how and values to the new generations.

Innovation and technology for fashion

Today, Pattern is an integrated ecosystem where Italian engineering, creativity, and craftsmanship coexist and contaminate each other. The group’s strength lies precisely in its ability to innovate while remaining faithful to Made in Italy style and values: attention to detail, quality of the materials used and a constant search for beauty. The integration of advanced technologies, continuous training through the Academy and the network of specialised companies make Pattern a scalable, replicable and contemporary example of Made in Italy. In a nutshell? A model to follow. A pattern, indeed.

Congratulations to those who innovate and bring Italian values and style to the world!
