Starting Finance and the ABC of financial markets

Learning, training, and gamification are the aces up Starting Finance’s sleeve to help millennials (and others) decode the economic-financial language and untangle the mechanisms that govern finance and the stock market.

For most millennials (and others), the headlines of traditional business and financial newspapers are often challenging to understand.

We have probably all considered this at least once, but some have even founded a start-up on it.

A reference for deciphering the language of finance

Today, we talk about Starting Finance, the innovative Made in Italy startup founded in 2018 by Marco Scioli and Edoardo Di Lella, both from Rome and born in 1995, and which today has to its credit a team of 10 people, all under the age of 30. The idea behind the startup is to become, especially for the under-35s, a sort of ‘Rosetta Stone’, a reference point for deciphering the language of finance, making the mechanisms that regulate financial markets, stock market investments and the economy in general, accessible to all enthusiasts. A helpful service if, as data from the Bank of Italy states, more than 70% of Italians find it challenging to keep informed on economic topics perceived as too complicated.

Learning, training and gamification

To this end, the start-up acts on three levels: learning, training, and gamification. At the first level, it constantly produces original content designed to bring young people closer to the economic-financial world. At the second level, it offers a series of Masterclasses held by managers from banks and multinationals to bring students closer to the world of work.

Finally, thanks to a gamification process called ‘Fantasy stock exchange’, the simulation app allows users to learn how financial investments work without taking any real risk.

A sizeable community

The Starting Finance platform already counts a community that, among Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn, has reached more than 500,000 followers. It has established partnerships with Consob, Fondazione per l’Educazione Finanziaria, Comitato per l’educazione finanziaria, and 35 Italian university clubs.

In three years, the startup has raised investments for over 1.5 million Euros, has Atypical Partner (manager of the pan-European fund Three Hills Capital Partners) as lead investor, and is working on a new round of 1.5 million. An authentic change of mentality, to build a country where everyone knows and understands the basic rules of economics and finance, manages their capital better, and starts to invest part of their savings consciously.

Congratulations to the young Italians who promote financial culture!
