Today, the Marano Lagunare-Santuario di Castelmonte stage arrives in the province of Udine. This area is home to Cividale del Friuli, one of the region’s five Unesco sites, and it is also where Danieli & Co. Officine Meccaniche S.p.a., a Made in Italy multinational and world leader in steel plants, was founded.
A winning bet
It all began in 1914 when Mario and Timo Danieli, originally from Valsugana, betting on the industry’s development, bought Acciaierie Angelini in Brescia. After the war, the two brothers split up, and Mario moved the business to Buttrio (UD) to produce steel equipment. With the market’s crisis in the mid-1970s, Luigi Danieli (Mario’s son) decided to change strategy and move into the design and sale of turnkey steel plants. A successful choice that led Danieli & C. to build steel mills and plants in Germany, the USSR, Africa and the United States.
In 1984, Danieli & Co. was quoted on the Milan stock exchange and, in the same year, launched the first electric arc furnaces under licence from Asea Metallurgy (Sweden).
Steady growth
The 2000s, thanks to a thorough corporate reorganisation and new acquisitions, saw steady growth, and the company opened new offices and production centres on all continents. In 2018, Danieli Academy was launched. Collaborating with hundreds of universities worldwide, it spreads a new HR culture.
Today, Danieli & Co., still headquartered in Buttrio, is under the leadership of CEO Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, employs thousands of people and has a turnover of billions of euros.
Congratulations to those who bring Italian engineering and talent to the world.
